    The simplest golf tip

Turn you body and swing your arms.

That’s the swing in a nutshell.

My philosophy isn’t complicated. I break down the swing so it’s easy to understand.

One of my students, Brandon, loves the game of golf. He puts a lot of time and energy into his swing, but only finds short-lived success. He suffers from a common ailment in golf called paralysis by analysis. He’s limiting his performance by complicating what should be easy. Swing fixes are working for him, but only for a period of time. He continually falls back into old habits, never reaching that new horizon of excellence he constantly dreams about.

People come to me with swing problems all them time. They tell me their symptoms and I give the prescription. Earlier in my career, I focused on solving the problem right away, a solution that provided immediate results and instant gratification. But like Brandon, he always came back for more lessons. There was no real improvement. His symptoms were not going away, which means I was still giving out prescriptions. It was a vicious cycle and not identified early enough.

Only when Brandon began to understand the source of his symptoms did he began making real changes. We forgot about the old adages such as, ‘straight left arm,” ‘shift your weight,’ keep your head down,’ or ‘lead with the hips.’ Those were only prescriptions to the problems. We had plenty of those. Instead, we focused on how to build consistent performance and lasting changes.

The easier you can understand the swing the better. Simplicity is the only approach to a game full of complexities. Next time you play try this swing thought, ‘turn your body and swing your arms.’

    Long and Straight,

    Adam
