My teaching philosophy is based on principles designed to enhance power, accuracy, and consistency. By first administering the correct principles of the set up we eliminate the possibility of bad habits and compensations in the future. Swing technique is then taught at the basic level by simplifying the two basic components, the rotation of the body and swinging of the arms, while technical principles are presented for the purpose of maximizing biomechanical efficiency. If needed, drills and training aids are introduced to facilitate the understanding and retention of new adjustments.
Scratch Golf School Basic Philosophy
Golf’s ultimate fundamental is the delivery of a square clubface through the ball down the intended line.
Optimum results are achieved by blending the right set up and swing principles.
Set Up Principles
Grip the club mostly in the fingers in a neutral position.
Aim the body and club in the direction you want to the ball to go.
Create enough width in your stance to facilitate a proper pivot, especially with longer clubs.
Adopt an athletic position over the ball with your knees bent and back straight.
Basic Swing Principle
The rotation of the body and swinging of the arms combined are the source of movement in the swing.
Technical Swing Principles
The shoulders turn farther than the hips on the backswing.
The back knee remains flexed at the top of the swing.
The plane of the downswing is well inside the plane of the backswing.
At impact the hips are more open to the target than the shoulders.
The lead wrist is slightly bowed at impact.
The lead hip is stacked above the lead foot at impact.
